Anti-Aging Tips for Healthy Skin

They say that beauty is only skin deep but how that skin looks as you age goes much deeper than that. Before you reach for creams and chemical preparations, try a more natural approach to healthy skin and staying young. Here are some anti aging tips to help you age gracefully that will work for every woman.

As we age, the effects of what we put into and onto our bodies begins to show. For instance, life lived in a harsh environment will affect the look and feel of your skin. Eating processed foods affects your internal environment and how it functions from year to year. With a little leg work you can change your body inside and out for a more youthful appearance no matter what your age.

1.    Drink lots of water. The body is composed of 90 percent water. Water gives the body an internal shower each day. It flushes your digestive and urinary systems. With fewer toxins in the body, everything operates more efficiently.

2.    Get regular physical activity. The heart and the lungs need a workout too. Working out for at least 30 minutes a day strengthens those organs and increases your oxygen supply to the brain for better concentration and focus. Exercise also releases those “feel good” endorphins that lighten our mood and lessen stress.

3.    Maintain a healthy weight. Obesity is an epidemic in this country. Excess weight causes all sorts of conditions like hypertension, stroke, heart attacks, and heart disease. Those conditions are less likely to attack your body when you get rid of excess fat.

4.    Get regular medical checkups. Many ailments and cancers can be caught in the early stages with a yearly physical. As you age there are recommendations for getting mammograms, colonoscopies and other preventative tests to keep the body in tiptop shape.

5.    Use natural beauty treatments. Many products in the stores go a long way to appear organic and natural. Cut out the middleman and create authentic natural beauty with fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers.

6.    Avoid the tanning beds and use natural sunscreen. Although a little sun is good for you as it provides much needed vitamin D, too much radiation from the sun can damage the delicate layers of the skin as well. Getting too much sun without any protection for your skin can lead to harmful melanomas. Protect yourself when you are outdoors to avoid premature wrinkling and drying of the skin. Use natural sunscreens such as Titanium Dioxide ans Zinc Oxide for a healthy alternative to chemical laden traditional sunscreens.

7.    Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals in your body that attack the body’s cells and cause us to age ungracefully. Leafy green veggies, orange and yellow veggies, and all types of citrus fruits contain antioxidants that keep you looking young. If you aren’t getting enough in your diet, consider taking antioxidant supplements.

8.    Get enough sleep. The body will only go so long without proper rest before it retaliates. When your body feels rundown, your immune system is weakened. The body needs time to repair itself and it does this during sleep. Shoot for 7-8 hours of restorative sleep every night to feel rejuvenated in the morning.
