Mineral Lip Gloss Tips

Posted by: Beauty Junkie | Comments (0)

Mineral makeup is not just powdered foundations & eyeshadows. Don’t forget your lips! They are sensitive and need special care using all natural ingredients as well so try using all natural mineral lip glosses.

You might be thinking that mineral cosmetics are powders. How are you going to apply powders to your lips? It’s true that most mineral makeup is a pressed or loose powder created from natural earth minerals.

Mineral powders can be used on all areas of your face including your lips. Many colors can be mixed with one another to create a new shade for your eyes, cheeks and yes, your lips. But also minerals can be applied with lipsticks and lip glosses for long lasting beautiful wear.

When it comes to beauty, we are all for it. But beauty has become more expensive and more artificial over the years. For a change, try bringing out your natural beauty at home instead.

Even companies that say their beauty products are organic or all natural are not always being totally honest with you. A product that contains natural oils may only contain a small percentage of the actual oil and a large percentage of fillers that can irritate skin.

One way to avoid the truth or near-truth of the beauty industry is to create your own natural beauty products. You’d be surprised to know that many modern cosmetics are a matter of chemical formulas in the lab. Just like with modern medicine and other chemical compounds, makeup began with the use of natural substances and scientists tried to go one better by using artificial formulations. Unfortunately, the result can often irritate your skin.

If you’d rather get back to basics, here are a few natural beauty ingredients you may have lying around your kitchen right now. When picking out fruits, vegetables, herbs, or plants for creating your own beauty products look for those that were grown without pesticides or other harmful chemicals.

1. Lemons – Lemons have been a well kept beauty secret. Lemon juice is a natural astringent. Cut a lemon in half and rub on your face to remove excess oil and to help lighten dark spots. Reduce lemons and water to create a lemon hair spray.

2. Roses – they smell great and add softness to the skin. Use natural rose petals that are free of insects and chemicals and add them to a hot tub of bath water for a naturally fragrant bath. Make your own rose water (steep roses in water) and combine with coconut milk for a bath skin treatment.

3. Strawberries – We all hate how strawberry seeds get in our teeth and bridgework. But, those seeds are good for more than being a nuisance. Use those small seeds as an exfoliant for your body and face. Combine strawberries with coarse salt crystals and some olive oil to create an exfoliating scrub.

4. Bananas – Bananas contain potassium which is naturally found in the body as an electrolyte and maintains the water balance in the body. Crush a few ripe bananas and mix with yogurt and egg white for a facial beauty mask.

5. Honey – It comes from our friends, the bees. Using honey on your face creates a nourishing facial mask. Honey also moisturizes your skin and contains antibacterial properties. Mix with vinegar for oily skin or some cooked oatmeal if your skin is dry. Open pores with warm water to clean them and close them with cold water when rinsing off the mask.

Get back to nature by putting together your own beauty treatments from plants and other ingredients that are not harmful to the body and contain no fillers or preservatives. You might have to mix up your favorite moisturizer or beauty mask once every two weeks or so but that’s a small price to pay for natural beauty.

Everyday women put products on their skin for anti-aging and beauty purposes. They spend thousands of dollars on the newest creams, supplements and beauty care and possibly even search out organic skin care to avoid chemicals… Read More→

Anti-aging products have become increasingly popular over the past few years and that’s because as we grow older, we are all looking to keep our skin looking younger and feeling healthier. Since we all have different types of skin, and therefore different skin nourishment needs, it’s a good idea to understand and be aware of what natural ingredients will work best for your particular needs.

Many of the anti-aging products available on the market do not contain harsh chemicals, but rather natural ingredients that all have their own benefits. The following is a list of a variety of botanical oils that are typically found in today’s anti-aging products and what they are commonly used for:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Evening Primrose, Matricaria,
  • Anti-irritants: Matricaria
  • Astringent: Baby oil, Tea tree
  • Conditioner: Evening Primrose,
  • Emollients, Skin Softeners, Smoothes, Apricot, Avocado, Camellia, Coconut, Corn, Evening Primrose, Grape Seed, Hazelnut, Joyoba, Kukui Nut, Macadamia Nut, Olive , Safflower , Soybean oil, Sunflower, Sweet Almond, Wheat germ
  • Essential Oil: Matricaria
  • Lubricant: Coconut, corn, peanut, sweet almond
  • Moisturizes: Hazelnut, Jojoba, Matricaria, Wheat germ
  • Nutrient: Sesame Oil

Anti-inflammatory extracts help reduce swelling, pain or tenderness, irritation, and/or redness. Anti-irritants have antiseptic, calming, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Conditioning oils contain fatty acids which are used to help smooth the skin. Emollient oils are used to soothe and soften skin by helping it retain moisture. Emollients often contain proteins like Vitamin A, sugar, starch, Vitamin B1, iron, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, and calcium – all of which help keep pores clear and allows for healthier skin. They also help to reduce irritation.

Essential oils are obtained by extracting plant essences from plants that have a particularly good or soothing scent. It lends itself to aromatherapy which is the process of enhancing physical or mental well being by inhaling a relaxing aroma. For the skin in particular, essential oils have antiseptic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory benefits. Lubricating oils are those used to remedy dryness and itchiness.

Carrier or Lubricating oils are wonderful for any skin type because they are high in mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids and naturally contain beneficial vitamins such as Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, and Vitamin E. Moisturizing oils condition and hydrate the skin and can be used to calm sunburns.

Moisturizing oils are important to keeping skin healthy as they do not clog pores. Nutrient oils are used to soften, hydrate, and rejuvenate skin and can be applied anywhere on the body.

Now that you know what botanical ingredients are best for you to seek out in an anti-aging product, have fun choosing one that appeals to you.

One thing to avoid, however, is mineral oil. Mineral oil is not recommended for skin because it can clog pores and it interferes with skin functions and advanced delivery systems. That’s definitely not something any of us want for our skin.

Keep in mind that most natural oils can be used for a variety of purposes. You should also be aware that botanicals are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration so you need to use common sense and take certain cautions when trying them. You should always test a small amount of any product on your skin to be sure you won’t have any sort of adverse reaction.
